Rankings

Published cross-country view.

Rankings appear only after verified values are published. Latte and iPhone stay off until their source automation exists.

Methodology

Public rules, before polish.

The preview keeps consumer price definitions strict, withholds unsupported references, and avoids implied automation that does not exist yet.

What we measure

Everyday Index tracks consumer-paid retail pricing across burger, latte and iPhone reference products. This first release publishes only automatically verified values and leaves unsupported products empty rather than guessing.

Price basis

Displayed values are consumer retail prices in local currency and USD where the source supports them. VAT-inclusive consumer prices are used as displayed; delivery markups, subsidies and trade-ins are excluded.

Source hierarchy

Structured datasets first, official brand sources second, reseller sources only where explicitly configured. The current burger feed uses the Economist Big Mac dataset; latte and iPhone remain scaffolded until official parsers are verified.

US/New York reference rule

The US reference must use New York, NY. Because the current Big Mac structured dataset does not provide a New York-specific US reference row, cross-country burger index values versus USA are intentionally withheld in this first slice.

Publishing status

Manual preview publish. Intended policy: Checked daily. Published weekly or when verified source data changes. Low-confidence extractions, currency mismatches, product-lock mismatches and suspicious price jumps are rejected or quarantined. The previous published value remains in place when new data does not clear validation.

Credits and trademarks

No partnership with McDonald's, Starbucks, Apple or The Economist is implied. The Economist Big Mac dataset remains source-defined and must not be mislabeled as a New York retail reference.
